Russian born austrian violist Wladimir Kossjanenko began his musical education at age of five. After his graduation at the special music school in Alma-Ata he studied viola from 1986 to 1991 with Vladimir Stopitchev at the Conservatory in St. Petersburg. In this time he got also lessons in conducting class of professor Ilya Mousin. Whilst studying he appeared as a principal violist and assistant-conductor of the “Ensemble of Leningrad Soloists”.
In 1991, following an invitation from the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra directed by Claudio Abbado, he came to Vienna. He continued his studies with Hans Peter Ochsenhofer and Thomas Kakuska at the Vienna University for Music and Performing Arts (graduated 1999 with distinction and Master of Arts degree) and later with Michael Kugel at the Royal Conservatory in Ghent, Belgium.
Important artistic experience he gained in the master classes with Norbert Brainin (Amadeus Quartet), Walter Levin (LaSalle Quartet), Gunter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet), Milan Škampa (Smetana Quartet) Joel Krossnick (Julliard Quartet) and Issac Stern.
Between 1993 and 1996 he was a regular substitute with Vienna Philharmonic, Wiener Staatsoper and Salzburg Festival. From 1994 to 1998 he was a principal violist of the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra and Graz Opera House.
1997 he has won the Union Fund and Management Prize at the 6th International Lionel Tertis viola competition (Isle of Man, England), and the special prize and medal of the Perrenoud Foundation (Neuchâtel, Switzerland).
From 1998 to 2007 Wladimir Kossjanenko was member of the Hugo Wolf Quartet, which was awarded the European Prize for Chamber music in Paris in 1999 and the “Pasticcio” Prize of the Austrian Radio in 2003. With the Hugo Wolf Quartet he made extended concert tours throughout Europe, North and South America, United Kingdom, Ireland, Korea and Japan.

In the past 15 years Wladimir Kossjanenko has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician at most prestigious concert venues, among them in:

as well at the festivals in Edinburgh, Trondheim, Colmar, Prague, Jerusalem, Dortmund, Schwetzingen, Geneva, Buenos Aires, Havanna, “Cervantino” Mexico, “L’été musical dans la vallée du Lot”, “Schubertiade” Roskilde, “Schubertiade” Schwarzenberg, “Styriarte”, “Klangbogen” Vienna, “Carinthischer Sommer”, “Splitsko Ljeto”, “Stars of the White Nights” St. Petersburg etc.
He recorded numerous CDs with Vesna Podrug, Yuliya Gorenman, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Xavier Phillips, Igor Malinovsky and Hugo Wolf Quartet for the Labels “Gramola”, “Atlantis Art”, “Extraplatte” and “Cam Jazz”.
He made also many TV productions for “Unitel” Berlin, TV Ireland, KBS Korea, HRT Croatia and numerous recordings for BBC, Deutschland Radio Berlin, Süd-West-Funk Baden-Baden, Radio Suisse Romande Espace 2, Radio France Paris, ORF Austria, RAI Italy, Minnesota Public Radio, Radio of Japan, Israel Radio etc.
His chamber music partners include Nicolas Angelich, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Paul Meyer, Mihaela Ursuleasa, the Ensemble Wiener Collage, Ensemble XX. Century Trio Altenberg and Trio Orlando. At the International Waldzell Meetings – Austria he worked together with Paulo Coelho, Lilly Brett, Robert Menasse and Luc Bondy.
Wladimir Kossjanenko performed for first time new compositions by Friedrich Cerha, Johannes Maria Staud, Erich Urbanner, Zbigniew Bargielski, Otto Zykan, Ernst Leitner, Dirk D’Ase, Kenny Wheeler, Srečko Bradić and many other contemporain composers.
He appeared as a soloist with Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, Zagreb Soloists, Jerusalem Festival Orchestra, Capella Lutherana Vienna, Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra Lodz, Vienna Academic Symphony Orchestra.
As a conductor he has appeared in Austria, Germany and Croatia.
Beside his concert activities Wladimir gave master-classes for viola and chamber music in United Kingdom, Netherland, Japan, Austria, Greece and Croatia.
He was a Jury-member of the International Rudolf Matz Competition in Dubrovnik (2008, 2010, 2013) and Watson Forbes International Viola Competition in St Andrews / Scottland (2009).
Since 2008 he is professor for viola and chamber music at the Academy of Arts at the University of Split/Croatia. Since 2009 he works together with the Zagreb Soloists.
In 2012 he founded the new String orchestra “The Virtuosos of Split” and become their conductor and artistic director.

VESNA PODRUG comes from Split in Croatia, where she received her first piano lessons from Professor G. Lentić. By the time she graduated from the Music School in Split in 1986, she had already won six first prizes at the National competitions in former Yugoslavia.
As the winner of an “Ivo Pogorelich” scholarship, she was able to move to Vienna to further her studies with Professor Paul Badura-Skoda at the University for Music and the Performing Arts. In 1989 she was also awarded a scholarship from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research.
She concluded her studies in 1992 and graduated with a Master of Arts degree. 2000 she completed her pedagogical education with distinction at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts.
Whilst studying Vesna Podrug played first concerto by Chopin with the Croatian National Orchestra in Split. From 2000 to 2005 she performed the Concerto No. 5 “The Emperor” by Ludwig van Beethoven with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra (Vienna Philharmonic) several times at the Vienna State Opera House.

Vesna Podrug played together with Wladimir Kossjanenko, Soo Kyung Hong, Goran Listes, Isabell Bringmann, Martina Serafin, Miguelangelo Cavalcanti at the prominent concert venues like Musikverein and Konzerthaus Vienna, Conservatorio Verdi Milano, Opera House Graz, Lisinski Concert hall and Croatian Musikverein Zagreb, TOI-Theater Salzburg and Bösendorfer Hall Vienna.
She performed in TV and radio concerts for the ORF (Austrian Radio) and also gave numerous concerts in Italy, Spain, France, Austria, Croatia, Turkey, Great Britain, Ireland, Finland and Germany.
From 1998 to 2007 she was engaged as a pianist at the Vienna State Opera House, and 2002- 2008 at the Vienna University of Music.
In 1999 her first CD “Music for Viola” (Extraplatte), that she has recorded together with violist Wladimir Kossjanenko was released. In 2002 the same label released her second CD “In Memoriam Shostakovich”, which she has recorded with Michael Kugel. In december 2002 this CD was chosen by The Strad Magazine – London as a Recital Disc – Strad Selection.
2002 Vesna Podrug performed with american mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves and violist Michael Kugel at the 53. Festival in Dubrovnik, 2006 with french violist Gerard Causse at the Festival in Hatrberg/Austria, 2008 with austrian flautist Karl-Heinz Schütz at the “Falaut” festival in Milano, 2010 with chinese sopran Hue He at the 61. Summer festival in Dubrovnik and with Tartini string quartet at the 56. Summer festival in Split.
Since 2007 Vesna Podrug has been a professor of piano at the Academy of Arts at the University of Split / Croatia.

Haruo Uesugi, medical doctor and pianist
Haruo Uesugi, born in Japan in 1967, started to play the piano at the age of five, and began his concert activity at the age of eleven including playing concertos with orchestra. His musical accomplishments even in his early years are brilliant and distinguished. After he received first prizes in several domestic piano competitions, he went, in 1981 at the age of 14, on a successful concert tour in USA. Further, he won a medal at Maria Canals International Competition in Barcelona in 1986.
He started his career as a concert pianist again after he entered the medical school. He had experience in solo concerts at many major concert halls including Suntory Hall in Tokyo and Osaka Symphony Hall in Japan. He also has played with many major orchstras in Japan. Further, he played in hospital concerts for patients as well and the NHK, Japanese national broadcasting company, broadcast a documentary program about one of such concerts.
Some of his works so far have been published in four CDs from EMI Japan.
After a 12 years’pause due to his medical career,he restarted his music activity in 2003. He had played with famous artists, such as Akiko Suwanai a winner at Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow in 1990, Michie Nakamaru, Yoshiko Kawamoto, Joerg Demus and Adalbert Skocic. He also played in Croatia with W. Kossjanenko (Professor in the Concervatoire in Split, Croatia) in 2009. He had studied piano with Tadashi Kitagawa, Kazuoki Fujii, Joseph Dichler, Joerg Demus and Pavel Gililov, and vocal accompaniment with Katarina Mikami and Martin Katz. Further, he devoted himself to studying cembalo with Yoshio Watanabe.
As a medical doctor, Haruo Uesugi studied at Hokkaido University School of Medicine and worked as a neurologist for several years. Then he studied at the Graduate School of the University of Tokyo and Uppsala University Hospital (Department of Clinical Neurophysiology) in Sweden. . At the same time, he is now a certificated physician by the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine and an authorized neurologist by Societas Neurologica Japonica.
