MIRO GAVRAN IN PARIS AND HONG KONG, 2020
Croatian writer Miro Gavran, whose work has been translated into over 40 languages across the world has two new achievements: in Paris and Hong-Kong.
French publisher PROZOR EDITION from Paris has published his drama Your Every Birthday. Nicolas Raljevic translated the drama. It premiered in December 2018 at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, and was translated into Czech and Castilian the autumn 2019. The text was translated into Russian and English as well. Gavran received the prize Marul for the best new drama at the Marulic Days -€™ Festival in the city of Split, Croatia.

Miro Gavran’s play Metamorphosis published in Hong Kong in Chinese

Another important news for affirmation of our author and Croatian drama in general comes from Hong Kong, where CHINA THEATRE PRESS published Metamorphoses, an anthology of east European drama. The book was put together by the renowned Bulgarian theatrologist Kalina Stefanova who lives in China for many years. She chose 11 European dramatists, and Miro Gavran among them. His hit play The Doll is accompanied by a studious text by prof. Sanja Nikcevic from the University of Osijek, Croatia.
Gavran’s The Doll has had 19 premiers across four continents, from New York in 2012 to Mumbai and Sidney. Eleven dramatists found their place in the anthology of S. Mrozek from Poland, H. Boicev from Bulgaria, D. Kovacevic from Serbia, O. Danek from Czechia, I. Orkeny from Hungary, and G. Carbunariu from Romania.
On this occasion Miro Gavran said: ‘The Paris edition of my drama is a continuation of my rich cooperation with French translators, I had five premiers in Paris, and I also had seven books published in that extraordinary city. Regarding the Chinese publication of my comedy The Doll, I see it as a great acknowledgement to my theatre writing. So far only my novel How We Broke Our Legs was published in Beijing, and now they can finally get to know me as a dramatist.”
Miro Gavran started this year with premieres: Ice-cream in Salzburg, Forget Hollywood in Pristina, Kosovo, and jubilar 100th performances of his hit comedies: Beer at Theatre Gavran and Wanted a New Husband at the Satirical theatre “Kerempuh”.
